Basketball Game Preview: Preble Shawnee Arrows vs. Oakwood Lumberjacks

The Preble Shawnee Arrows will challenge the Oakwood Lumberjacks at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Preble Shawnee took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Bradford by a score of 53-42. The win was some much needed relief for the Arrows as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Preble Shawnee relied on the efforts of Aubrey Unger, who dropped a triple-double on 15 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals, and Josie Mondello-Garrett, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 16 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Unger is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Braelyn Tangeman, who posted six points and six boards.

Preble Shawnee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Oakwood blew past Eaton, posting a 64-35 victory. The Lumberjacks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 22 points or more this season.

Oakwood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28.2 points. As for Preble Shawnee, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.

Preble Shawnee took a serious blow against Oakwood when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 54-25. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Preble Shawnee was down 30-6.
