The Harrison Raiders fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Logansport Berries on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 75-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Berries. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Harrison came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Logansport is ranked 255th).
Harrison's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jeffrey Williams, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds, and Ray Gibson who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gibson has scored all season. Carson Cain was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Logansport's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isaac Russell, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Russell pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Smith, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Harrison has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for Logansport, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-9.
Harrison will take on Lafayette Central Catholic at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Lafayette Central Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday. As for Logansport, they will head out on the road to take on Oak Hill at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Oak Hill will be up against Logansport's rather soft defense (which has allowed 55.59 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing.
