Mohave is 0-5 against Prescott since September of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Thunderbirds will welcome the Badgers at 7:00 p.m.
On Friday, Mohave came up short against Bradshaw Mountain and fell 31-21. The Thunderbirds gained 79 more yards on the day, but it was the Bears that made the best use of them.
Mohave might have lost, but man, Joe Yoney was a machine: he threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 75 yards on only eight carries. Yoney also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making 12 total tackles and defending one pass.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Prescott, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past Mingus 48-0 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Badgers in their matchups with the Marauders: they've now won seven in a row.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Braylon Johnson and Jacob Chamberlain. Johnson rushed for 149 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries while Chamberlain rushed for 211 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Kenny Miller-Terry was in the mix as well, providing Prescott with one touchdown.
Prescott's run defense was locked in: Mingus could only muster 0.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Trace Overton for the heroic effort on defense: he. Prescott didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.9.
Prescott didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kingston Douthit and Overton. Prescott received some extra help from Miller-Terry, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Prescott now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Mohave, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Mohave has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 230.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Prescott struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 273.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Mohave was dealt a bruising 55-0 defeat at the hands of Prescott in their previous matchup back in October of 2020. Thankfully for the Thunderbirds, Nathan Wright (who rushed for 86 yards and three scores on only nine carries, and also caught one TD) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
