Softball Recap: Columbus North Victorious

Columbus North came out on top against Bloomington South on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Bull Dogs took their game against the Panthers 6-1. The Bull Dogs haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Bailee Scruggs made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

Scruggs wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Jarvis, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Columbus North hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.

Columbus North's record now sits at 9-10. As for Bloomington South, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.

Looking ahead, Columbus North will head out on the road to take on North Harrison at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Bloomington South, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 3-2 defeat against North Daviess on the 15th.
