Having just played yesterday, the Ohio School for the Deaf Spartans will jump right back in to play the Marie Philip Galloping Ghosts at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ohio School for the Deaf came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 59 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 71-36 win over American School for the Deaf. With Ohio School for the Deaf ahead 35-10 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Meanwhile, Marie Philip blew past Tournament Opponent, posting a 50-6 win on the road. Marie Philip pushed the score to 50-4 by the end of the third, a deficit Tournament Opponent cut but never quite recovered from.
Marie Philip's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Stokely Karp, who scored 11 points along with five steals, and Xavier DeLeon, who scored 12 points along with six steals and five assists. DeLeon is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremy Novas, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Ohio School for the Deaf is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Marie Philip, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-7.
Ohio School for the Deaf skirted past Marie Philip 54-51 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ohio School for the Deaf since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
