5A Front Range recap Oct. 16, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mountain Range, who took down 42nd ranked Mountain Range, 34-21. Travis Avila threw for 176 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 62 yards in the win.
Fossil Ridge moved up to 83 from 120 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Front Range. The Sabercats were able to make the jump by beating the Mustangs 34-21.
Austin Sander was the best wideout in the league this week as Poudre lost to Fort Collins. Sander tallied five receptions for 132 yards. Dan Pinkston helped Poudre's passing attack out by catching three balls for 36 yards.
Toby Bollig was the most productive running back in the league this week. In four carries, he ran for 105 yards as the Lambkins lost to the Lambkins. Teammate Calvin Johnson added to the ground attack by rushing for 87 yards.
Fossil Ridge's Avila and Corey Peter have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Front Range in both passing and receiving yards. Avila has thrown for 1344 yards this season, while Peter, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 37 catches for 706 yards. Mountain Range's Gabe Gellespie leads the league in rushing yards with 569.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Horizon takes on second place Fort Collins. Last week, Horizon beat Rocky Mountain, while Fort Collins defeated Poudre.
Eric Rice's team extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Dan Reardon's team, 42-21. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Lambkins.
