The Etowah Blue Devils will take on the St. Clair County Fighting Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Etowah's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so St. Clair County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Etowah will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Sardis on Thursday. The Blue Devils walked away with an 11-7 win over the Lions. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Blue Devils' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

The team relied heavily on Kylee Wilder, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maggy Bennett, who went 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Etowah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, St. Clair County entered their tilt with Southside on Thursday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Panthers 7-1. The Fighting Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Carleigh Butts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Vylet Byers was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Carmen Garner was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
St. Clair County's victory bumped their record up to 17-14-1. As for Etowah, their win bumped their record up to 22-12.
Etowah got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in February against St. Clair County by a conclusive 10-2 score. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Fighting Saints turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
