Basketball Recap: Wetumpka Makes It Six in a Row at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Percy Julian, Wetumpka was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They snuck past the Marbury Bulldogs with a 68-64 win. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 281st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wetumpka's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Justin Godwin, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards. Godwin is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Christopher Robinson was another key player, going 8 of 12 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.

Wetumpka smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 21 consecutive contests.

Marbury's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Driver, who posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Jalen Hall, who put up 17 points.

Wetumpka pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.5 points per game. As for Marbury, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-13.

Wetumpka will take on Percy Julian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Wetumpka is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.3 points per game this season. Marbury has already played their next game, a 66-41 win against Booker T. Washington Magnet on the 25th.
