Softball Recap: Mathis Wins Going Away Against Odem

Mathis won the last time they faced Odem and things went their way on Friday too. Mathis blew past Odem 16-4. Considering the Pirates have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Marivel Martinez was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Charleen Hernandez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 5-for-6.

Mathis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .635. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Odem only posted an OBP of .364.

Mathis has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. Odem's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mathis will face off against Aransas Pass at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Aransas Pass will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Odem, they will take on Ingleside at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ingleside's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Odem's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
