Western is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Durango is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Warriors will welcome the Trailblazers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Western will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Cimarron-Memorial on Thursday. The Warriors blew past the Spartans 17-3. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.

Edwin Moreno was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Western: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Edgar Garcia, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Western is undefeated when Garcia posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Adrian Diaz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Western kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Durango never let their opponents score on Thursday. Everything went their way against Pinecrest Academy Cadence as they made off with a 24-0 win.
Like Western, Durango also got a great game from a two-way player: Aiden Farrell. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Farrell has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Durango got a massive performance out of Jayden Shuford, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jon Turner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Durango is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Western, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Western hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Durango struggles in that department as they've averaged .377. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Western couldn't quite get it done against Durango when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
