The Pettisville Blackbirds are taking a road trip to face off against the Ayersville Pilots at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Pettisville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Pettisville's offense. They came up short against Montpelier on Thursday, falling 11-0. The Blackbirds haven't had much luck with the Locomotives recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Meanwhile, Ayersville waltzed into their match on Thursday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. Everything went their way against the Apaches as they made off with a 10-0 win. Considering the Pilots have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kendra Waldron was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Aeriel Brown was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Allison Eldridge, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Ayersville's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Pettisville, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pettisville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. However, it's not like Ayersville struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
