Basketball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Lewis Cass' Winning Streak

If Lewis Cass was feeling good fresh off their 55-21 takedown of Delphi Community last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lewis Cass Kings took a hard 56-37 fall against the Whitko Wildcats on Saturday. The Kings' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Lewis Cass still got an impressive performance from Aftin Griffin, who posted 25 points and four steals.

Whitko's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adriyanna Phillips, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 19 points. Phillips' evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayma Stonebraker, who put up 15 points.

Lewis Cass' loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-2. As for Whitko, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

Lewis Cass will look to defend their home court on Friday against Tipton at 10:30 a.m. Lewis Cass is facing Tipton at the right time seeing as Tipton is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Whitko, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Wabash at 7:45 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
