If Fall River beats Cambria-Friesland with ten runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Pirates beat Rio on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-6.
Julian Ramczyk and Connor Veith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ramczyk struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Veith pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. At the plate, Ramczyk got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Veith went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Mason Powell was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Seim, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Cambria-Friesland's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Green Lake/Princeton. The game marked the Hilltoppers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Cambria-Friesland's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Fall River, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
Fall River came out on top in a nail-biter against Cambria-Friesland when the teams last played back in April of 2019, sneaking past 8-7. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Hilltoppers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
