Robinson has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. The Robinson Knights and the Durant Cougars will face off at 8:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Robinson came up short against Plant City and fell 69-56. Robinson has struggled against Plant City recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Robinson's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of LaJesse Harrold, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Jordan Mickens who scored 17 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zyon Floyd, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, Durant had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They put the hurt on King with a sharp 82-59 win. Given Durant's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while King is ranked 337th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Austin White, who went 7 for 15 from beyond the arc en route to 35 points and 6 assists. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Caden Bokor, who scored 12 points along with seven assists and three steals.
Robinson's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-9. As for Durant, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Robinson have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Durant struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Robinson beat Durant 74-63 when the teams last played back in December of 2018. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Durant's Yamil Flores, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Robinson to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
