Softball Game Preview: Joliet Catholic Hilltoppers vs. Kankakee Kays

Joliet Catholic is a perfect 3-0 against Kankakee since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Hilltoppers will venture away from home to face off against the Kays at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Saturday, Joliet Catholic was able to grind out a solid win over Benet Academy, taking the game 15-10.

Meanwhile, Kankakee entered their tilt with Thornwood on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 19-9 margin over the Thunderbirds. 19 seems to be a good number for the Kays as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Calleigh Moody was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Glogowski, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one triple.

Moody wasn't the only one making solid contact: Kankakee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for the Kays: they were averaging 3.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 8.8.

Kankakee's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Joliet Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.

Everything went Joliet Catholic's way against Kankakee when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Joliet Catholic made off with a 12-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hilltoppers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
