Springstead had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Zephyrhills Bulldogs on Friday, sneaking past 16-13.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dj Pickett, who picked up 116 receiving yards and a touchdown. Pickett got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of71 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Xzavier Jackson, who threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns.
Springstead will be defending their home-field for the first timethey go up against Citrus at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Zephyrhills, they will take on Wesley Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
