After flying high against the Edison Eagles on January 12th, the Sapulpa Chieftains came back down to earth. Sapulpa fell just short of Will Rogers College by a score of 48-46. It was the first time this season that Sapulpa let down their fans at home.
Sapulpa lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tyla Heard, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Heard is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Bilby, who scored 11 points.
Sapulpa's loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-5. As for Will Rogers College, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-9.
Sapulpa won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Holland Hall at 11:30 a.m. on January 27th. Holland Hall will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while Sapulpa is ranked 29th). As for Will Rogers College, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Memorial at 6:00 p.m. Memorial is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
