Maritime Academy Charter is on a three-game streak of home losses, Central an eight-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs will take on the Central Lancers at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Maritime Academy Charter suffered their biggest defeat since December 13, 2023 on Tuesday. Their tough 63-42 defeat to String Theory might stick with them for a while. Maritime Academy Charter was down 49-25 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the defeat, Maritime Academy Charter saw an underclassman step up: Zibri Miller dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Andy Figueroa, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Maritime Academy Charter struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Central struggled with assists on Tuesday (George Washington had 15 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Central fell 58-50 to George Washington.
Despite the loss, Central saw an underclassman step up: Yamir Knight-Parker scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Knight-Parker is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played.
Maritime Academy Charter's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Central, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Maritime Academy Charter have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Central, though, as they've been averaging only 7.3 rebounds per game. Given Maritime Academy Charter's sizeable advantage in that area, Central will need to find a way to close that gap.
Maritime Academy Charter strolled past Central when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 71-57. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Central's Sizwe Morris-Louis, who scored 18 points. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Maritime Academy Charter to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
