On Friday, The Dover Senators faced the Cape Henlopen Vikings in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Dover breezed by Cape Henlopen at home to the tune of 35-7. Considering Dover has won four matches by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
John Parker was on fire: he rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per carry, and also picked up 91 receiving yards and a touchdown. Parker's longest reception was for an incredible 86 yards. Another player making a difference was Nahseem Cosme, who threw for 172 yards and a touchdown on only nine passes.
When it comes to explaining why Cape Henlopen lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maurki James. Despite the final result, he rushed for 189 yards. James has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played.
Dover's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Cape Henlopen, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dover will challenge Caesar Rodney at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The timing isn't great for Caesar Rodney: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Dover has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season. As for Cape Henlopen, they will challenge St. Georges Tech at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Georges Tech is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
