DeKalb hasn't had much luck against Leo recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Barons will take on the Lions at 12:00 p.m.
DeKalb fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Lakeland on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lakers by a score of 7-6.
Serena Wineland made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia McHenry, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Leo waltzed into their contest on Thursday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Barons a 12-0 shutout. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Leah Shappell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Leo got a big performance out of Naomi Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Luci Schott was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Leo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as DeKalb only posted an OBP of .211.
DeKalb's defeat dropped their record down to 6-17-1. As for Leo, their record is now 20-3.
DeKalb suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Leo in their previous matchup on Thursday. Can the Barons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
