The San Pedro Pirates are taking a road trip to take on the Carson Colts at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with San Pedro sitting on ten straight victories and Carson on four.
Carson's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: San Pedro hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Pirates' pitcher stepped up to hand Narbonne a 21-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
San Pedro got a great performance from Caroline Baker as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Baker has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mia Guerrero was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024. Jaelynn Ozuna also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
San Pedro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Carson got the win against Rancho Dominguez on Monday by a conclusive 19-0. The Colts are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the 12th contest they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Isabella Campos tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rylee Gardner, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ashannalee Titialii, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.
Carson's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for San Pedro, their record is now 13-2.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. San Pedro has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. However, it's not like Carson struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
San Pedro took their win against Carson in their previous matchup on April 3rd by a conclusive 9-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
