While Bradley Beal brings a little youth to Dean Backes’ 2008-09 Missouri all-state basketball teams, he definitely hasn’t played like it during his brief prep career.
The Chaminade sophomore, who has scored 942 points in 57 games over the past two seasons, led the Flyers to this season’s Class 5 state championship at Mizzou Arena in Columbia earlier this month.
Beal, the only underclassman on this year’s squad, was a consistent contributor during Chaminade’s 6-game title run. The 6-foot-3 guard scored 49 points collectively during Flyer wins over Columbia-Rock Bridge (66-65) and Grandview (80-70) at the Missouri Show-Me Showdown.
Joining Beal on the all-state team are Tyler Griffey (Lafayette-Wildwood), Michael Dixon (Lee’s Summit West), Jordan Dressler (Columbia-Rock Bridge), Bryant Allen (Maplewood-Richmond Heights) and Colorado bound Alec Burks (Grandview).
Platte County senior Morgan Johnson heads up the girls' all-state basketball team after leading the Pirates to the Class 4 girls' title.
Johnson set a state tournament record by scoring 41 points in a 62-50 semifinal win over Miller Career Academy in a semifinal, and she poured in 24 points during the 81-75 championship game win over Webb City, after averaging 18.3 points and 10.7 rebounds during the regular season.
Joining Johnson on this season’s squad is Class 5 champion Nixa junior Bethany Funderburk, Drew Roberts (Blue Springs), Katherine Harry (Columbia-Rock Bridge), Katelyn Heil (Dexter) and Samantha Heck (North Callaway).
