West Lafayette had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 5-4 to make it four. They lost 18-7 to the McCutcheon Mavericks. If the Red Devils were looking for revenge after losing 7-6 to the Mavericks when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Bree Johnson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Megan Fowler, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
As for McCutcheon, their record is now 4-2. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
On McCutcheon's side, Kaidynn Peckinpaugh made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Peckinpaugh has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, McCutcheon got a massive performance out of Molly Davis, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits Davis has posted since back in May of 2024. Emma Wykoff was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Lafayette will head out to square off against Western at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Red Devils' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for McCutcheon, they will venture away from home to face off against Benton Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bison have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.5 runs per game on average), something the Mavericks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
