Having just played yesterday, the Sylmar Spartans will jump right back in to play the Schurr Spartans at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Sylmar will be strutting in after a victory while Schurr will be coming in after a loss.
Sylmar had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged Eagle Rock out 73-71. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Sylmar's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gustavo Lopez led the charge by scoring 19 points along with six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Lopez has scored at least 25% of Sylmar's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Dickson, Jr, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Schurr's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Calabasas, falling 65-37. While losing is never fun, Schurr can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 424th, while Calabasas is ranked 156th).
Sylmar pushed their record up to 6-10 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.7 points per game. As for Schurr, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
