Bryan Alonso was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Marcelo Diaz Villalon looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Alonso wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Raymond Llanes, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. That's the most hits Llanes has posted since back in March. Another was Joshua Abrahante, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Venice made sure to put some runs up on the board against Newsome on Thursday. The Indians put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by seven runs or more this season.
Like Alonso, Venice also got a great game from a two-way player: Jackson Lucas. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Lucas was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Kasen Poplin looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on August Backman, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Jonathan Mauro was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Venice pushed their record up to 28-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Alonso, their record is now 19-11.
