The Bunker Hill Bears put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their undefeated season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Newton-Conover 48-21 on the road. Bunker Hill pushed the score to 45-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Newton-Conover cut but never quite recovered from.
Jason Willis jr continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 192 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Willis jr is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Xavier Mccleave did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 138 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Newton-Conover's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jordan Lineberger, who rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown. Lineberger is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last eight games he's played.
Bunker Hill's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 St. Stephens and 2-7 East Burke (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 25% over those games). As for Newton-Conover, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bunker Hill will take on Bandys at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Bandys is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Newton-Conover, they will head out on the road to face off against Maiden at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th.
