3A Region 4 recap September 24, 2013
Tarrant was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 3A Region 4. The Wildcats defeated Montevallo 20-14 earlier in the week.
Comer scaled the state rankings by moving to 213 from 265 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of beating Central of Coosa County 38-0.
Andrew Hammond and Shakerian Hayes gave the Cougars a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Hammond threw for 100 yards, while Hayes ran for 40 yards. Teammate Rod Whetstone added to the ground attack by rushing for 18 yards.
Hammond and Hayes gave Central of Coosa County a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week.
Connor Franklin made the biggest impact on defense this week as Trinity Presbyterian beat Midfield. The 6-foot-3 junior.
Robert Adams was the best wideout in the league this week as the Wildcats beat the Patriots. Adams tallied 10 receptions for 87 yards. Hunter Johnson helped Trinity Presbyterian's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 26 yards.
Hammond put up the best numbers in passing as Richard Bell's team fell to Comer. Hammond's favorite target this week was Tre Royal, who caught 4 passes for 66 yards.
Hayes was the most successful running back in 3A Region 4 this week.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Trinity Presbyterian's Griffin Slater and Adams have proven to be a lethal combination. Slater has thrown for 373 yards this season, while Adams, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 30 catches for 351 yards. The Cougars' Hayes leads the league in rushing yards with 185.
Leeds led the league in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on Thorsby.
