2A-1 Region II District 8 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Mt. Vernon's Daniel Brown recorded the longest rushing play in 2A-1 Region II District 8 this season in his game against Winnsboro last week. Brown's team bested the Raiders as he sprinted for 96 yards on the play and finished with 104 in all.
New Boston was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. The Lions vanquished North Lamar 38-24 earlier in the week.
Mt. Vernon's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brown threw for 112 and one touchdown and Sakorey Chandler had 163 yards receiving. Brown helped Mt. Vernon's passing attack out by catching five balls for 55 yards.
Mt. Vernon's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Brown has thrown for 468 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Chandler has 17 catches for 304 yards. Kris Ables leads the league in rushing with 311 yards.
Two of the top units in 2A-1 Region II District 8 will face off this week when the Tigers take on Hooks. Mt. Vernon's offense has scored 151 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Hornets have allowed only 133 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Queen City takes on New Boston. As it stands, the Bulldogs are in third, while Rick Barker's team is in first.
The Lions extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Panthers, 38-24. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
