Triton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 21 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 15-14 heartbreaker at the hands of the North White Vikings. On the bright side, the 14- run effort marked the Trojans' highest-scoring matchup to date.
Eleanor Hernandez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (one). She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those hits marked the first that she has got this season.
In other batting news, Clara Doll and Alicia Gonzales did some serious damage despite the final result: Doll went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Gonzales went 2-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That double was Doll's first of the season. Jillian Bules was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
As for North White, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 16, 2024.
Like Triton, North White also got a great game from a two-way player: Raelynn Anliker. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Anliker a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Hanna Hunt was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Adriann Conn, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Triton will face off against LaVille at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Lancers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.55 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for North White, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Winamac at 5:30 p.m. The Warriors will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
