Baseball Recap: Kankakee's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

Kankakee dropped their record down to 8-15 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 12-0 to the Wilmington Wildcats. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Kays' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Kankakee saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Byron Wills, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for Wilmington, they pushed their record up to 17-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Wilmington's side, Cooper Holman made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Holman has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Drew Jackson looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Kyle Farrell was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryan Kettman, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kankakee will host Bishop McNamara at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Fightin' Irish will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Kays surely won't give up without a fight. As for Wilmington, they will welcome Shepard at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
