Dunedin has gone 7-1 against Anclote recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Falcons will host the Sharks at 7:00 p.m. Dunedin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Dunedin proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 17) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Canterbury. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Abby McLemore made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
McLemore wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Preston, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Anclote). They put the hurt on Gibbs with a sharp 26-16 victory on Wednesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Sharks as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.
Rileigh Teague and Janelle Hammond did most of the damage at the plate: Teague got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI, while Hammond got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Those four RBI gave Teague a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Wells, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.
Anclote always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .927. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Dunedin's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Anclote, their victory bumped their record up to 2-15.
Anclote's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Dunedin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Anclote, though, as they've been averaging only 2.1 strikeouts. Will Dunedin keep running through batters, or will the Sharks buck the trend?
Everything went Dunedin's way against Anclote when the teams last played back in February, as Dunedin made off with a 19-0 win. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sharks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
