Meek and Sumiton Christian are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2018, but not for long. The Meek Tigers will be playing at home against the Sumiton Christian Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Meek pushed their score all the way to 56 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 62-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cullman Christian.
Despite the loss, Meek saw an underclassman step up: Aleah Addison scored 21 points. Addison scored a full 37.5% of Meek's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though Sumiton Christian has not done well against Winston County recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Sumiton Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Winston County and snuck past 37-35. Given Sumiton Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 185th, while Winston County is ranked 379th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meek's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Sumiton Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
Meek couldn't quite finish off Sumiton Christian when the teams last played back in January and fell 33-31. Can Meek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
