Volleyball Recap: Ethan Cork and John Vu Secure Win for Gilbert Classical Academy

While Gilbert Classical Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 2-0 win over the ALA - Anthem South Titans on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won four in a row.

Leading Gilbert Classical Academy to victory were John Vu and Ethan Cork. Vu had eight aces and four digs, while Cork had three aces and one assist. Those eight aces gave Vu a new career-high. Declan Meyers also deserves some recognition as he served his first aces of the season.

They weren't the only good server: Gilbert Classical Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 11 aces in three consecutive games.

Gilbert Classical Academy's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for ALA - Anthem South, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coincidentally, Gilbert Classical Academy and ALA - Anthem South will both be playing Leading Edge Academy - GEC the next time they take the court. ALA - Anthem South will head out to face Leading Edge Academy - GEC at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, while Gilbert Classical Academy will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
