The Greenwood Mennonite Flames will venture away from home to challenge the Holly Grove Christian Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Greenwood Mennonite is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Holly Grove Christian will be up against a hot Greenwood Mennonite squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went the Flames' way against Chestertown Christian Academy on Tuesday as they made off with a 13-2 victory. Considering the Flames have won three matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jeremy Tennefoss and Logan Dear (HS) made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Tennefoss pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Dear (HS) pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Tennefoss went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Dear (HS) scored a run and stole two bases.
In other batting news, James Adams was a standout: he scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Dean, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Holly Grove Christian was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They lost 17-2 to Nandua. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost seven in a row.
Holly Grove Christian saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bradley Chatham, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another was Nathan Hamilton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base.
Holly Grove Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Greenwood Mennonite, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greenwood Mennonite has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Holly Grove Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Greenwood Mennonite took their win against Holly Grove Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Flames since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
