2A-1 Region III District 12 recap November 5, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Brett Gilchrist and Cole Brunett connected against Life Red Oak. The connection was good for 95 yards, the longest such play in 2A-1 Region III District 12 this season.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Grandview beat Clifton 62-33. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Whitney's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Gilchrist threw for 369 and 3 touchdowns and Randy Cantwell had 137 yards receiving. On the ground Kelton Mansfield contributed 214 yards. Brunett helped Whitney's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 113 yards.
Mansfield was a beast in the backfield as the Wildcats defeated the Mustangs.
He went 12-28 with 2 interceptions.
Gilchrist put up the best numbers in passing as Whitney beat Life Red Oak. Gilchrist's favorite target this week was Cantwell, who caught 3 passes for 137 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Kenneth Gilchrist's team's Gilchrist and Brunett have proven to be a lethal combination. Gilchrist has thrown for 2,723 yards this season, while Brunett has 56 catches for 1,020 yards. Mike Underwood's team's KAINE BLAKE leads the league in rushing yards with 1,415.
The top two teams in 2A-1 Region III District 12 will face off this week when first place Grandview takes on second place Godley.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Grandview takes on Godley. Casey Walraven's team's offense has racked up 342 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Wildcats have allowed only 181 on the year.
The Zebras' Zach Smith is within 118 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Godley. Accruing a total of 17 touchdowns this year, Smith has thrown for 1,882 yards with 8 interceptions.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Grandview takes on Randy Brawner's team. The Zebras have allowed 240 points this season, while the Wildcats have given up 181. Grandview allowed 33 points last week as it bested the Cubs.
The Wildcats scaled the state rankings by moving to 530 from 570 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Whitney was able to move up by besting the Mustangs 66-14.
