Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Live Oak walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Homestead Mustangs with a sharp 11-1 victory on Saturday. Considering the Acorns have won 15 matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Julianna Altamirano made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Mixco, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Laila Salinas also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Live Oak was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Homestead only posted a batting average of .250.
The win (which was Live Oak's sixth in a row) raised their record to 24-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Homestead, with the defeat, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-5.
As of now, neither Live Oak nor the Mustangs have any future games scheduled.
