The Lincoln Mustangs entered their tilt with the Washington Eagles with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Lincoln took their game at home on Saturday with ease, bagging a 50-6 victory over Washington. Considering Lincoln has won four matchups by more than 24 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jamelle Newman had a dynamite game for Lincoln, rushing for 173 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. Newman's longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards.
Another reason for the win was Lincoln's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Mekai Smith and his two sacks.
Lincoln's victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 6-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-7 Mission and 3-7 Lowell (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.8% over those games). As for Washington, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lincoln will take on Burton at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Burton comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Washington, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lowell at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
