The Academy for Classical Education Gryphons will head out on the road to face off against the Southwest Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Academy for Classical Education stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They put the hurt on Rutland with a sharp 34-14 win. The victory was nothing new for Academy for Classical Education as they're now sitting on three straight.
Academy for Classical Education can attribute much of their success to Kaleb Scarbary, who threw for 171 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Brice Whitley did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 83 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Southwest can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent game on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 36-8 victory over Kendrick at home. The victory was just what Southwest needed coming off of a 50-16 loss in their prior contest.
Carmelo Mays was the offensive standout of the matchup as he picked up 201 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Mays' longest reception was for an incredible 85 yards.
Academy for Classical Education's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Jordan and 2-7 Georgia Military College (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 21.2% over those games). As for Southwest, their win bumped their record up to 4-4.
Everything came up roses for Academy for Classical Education against Southwest in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 62-28 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Academy for Classical Education since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
