Calvary Chapel added to the longest winning streak in Orange Coast this week by beating Saddleback, 63-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Costa Mesa scaled the state rankings by moving to 700 from 757 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Mustangs were able to move up by beating Godinez 64-39.
Calvary Chapel's dynamic duo of Patrick Glasgow and Nick Meldrum proved to be unstoppable against the Roadrunners, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Glasgow threw for 36 yards and 13 touchdowns and Meldrum had 155 yards receiving. Luke Thompson helped Calvary Chapel's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 34 yards.
Danny Mattero provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Chris Cox's team beat Saddleback. He completed 19 passes for 297 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 42 yards. Mattero's key target this week was Meldrum, who caught 4 passes for 155 yards.
Nathan Lancaster was a force in the backfield as Laguna Beach defeated Estancia.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Eagles' Mattero and Joey Cox have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-3 quarterback Mattero has thrown for 1,734 yards this season, while Cox has 42 catches for 584 yards. The Breakers' Lancaster leads the league in rushing yards with 1,377.
The top two teams in Orange Coast will face off this week when first place Calvary Chapel takes on second place Laguna Beach. Last week, Calvary Chapel topped Rob Thompson's team, while Laguna Beach bested the Eagles.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Eagles' Cox goes up against Corey Brown's team's Keaton Martinez.
Costa Mesa's Crenshaw Oronde needs only 76 yards against the Roadrunners next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 120 carries Oronde has put up 924 yards this year.
Next week's game between Calvary Chapel and the Breakers will feature an aerial matchup as Mattero tests his arm against Martinez's defensive ability.
