For the second straight game, Wilmington will face off against Peotone. The Wildcats will square off against the Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wilmington knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Peotone likes a good challenge.
Wilmington barely beat Peotone the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Blue Devils a 10-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Lucas Rink made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Kettman, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zach Ohlund, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Wilmington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peotone only posted an OBP of .118.
Wilmington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Peotone, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-14.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wilmington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Peotone struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
