After a string of six wins, Everest Collegiate's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell to Cranbrook Kingswood 40-36. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Everest Collegiate came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Cranbrook Kingswood is ranked 270th).
Cranbrook Kingswood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Madeline Day, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Brown, who scored seven points.
Everest Collegiate's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2. As for Cranbrook Kingswood, they pushed their record up to 5-3 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Everest Collegiate will challenge University Liggett at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cranbrook Kingswood won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Greenhills at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th.
