Two dominant guards in Systren Eliza Elenus and Jakira Brown are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Purvis Tornadoes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Columbia Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, in a tight contest that could have gone either way, Purvis made off with a 46-45 victory over Sumrall.
Purvis got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lillee Crider out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Crider has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Breleigh Adkins, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Columbia put the finishing touches on their 14th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 62-33 win over Sumrall. The win was nothing new for Columbia as they're now sitting on eight straight.
Brown continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 25 points. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Payshunce Sims, who scored 12 points.
Purvis' win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Columbia, their victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4.
Purvis was taken down by Columbia 56-27 in their previous matchup on January 9th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brown, who scored 22 points. Now that Purvis knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
