The Sahuarita Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 46-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rio Rico. Sahuarita was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Rio Rico apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Sahuarita lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alejandro Vega. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Zack Myhre, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rio Rico to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jeshua Murrieta, who scored eight points along with three steals and three blocks. Santiago Merrino was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Sahuarita dropped their record down to 6-16 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Rio Rico, their win ended a eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-14.
Sahuarita will be playing at home against Walden Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Walden Grove's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 matches. As for Rio Rico, they will head out on the road to face off against Mica Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mica Mountain will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
