The Lamar Silver Foxes were the 46-33 winner over the Hemingway Tigers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Lamar fell just short of Hemingway by a score of 45-42. Lamar found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 20 to 7 on offense.
Despite the loss, Lamar still got an impressive performance from NyShaun "Shaun" Quillen, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Quillen scored a full 33.3% of Lamar's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alvion Ward, who scored six points along with three steals.
Hemingway got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Damarion Wilson out in front who scored nine points along with 15 rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Omarion Burgess, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Lamar's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Hemingway, their victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lamar won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Darlington at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. Darlington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lamar in South Carolina (Darlington is ranked 48th, while Lamar is ranked 263rd). Hemingway won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Trinity Collegiate at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Trinity Collegiate has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 273 points over their last four matches.
