For the first time this season, Porter-Gaud will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Monday. They are taking a road trip to take on the Pinewood Prep Panthers at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Porter-Gaud 3.8, Pinewood Prep 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Porter-Gaud will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Academic Magnet on Thursday. Porter-Gaud walked away with a 10-6 victory over Academic Magnet. The Cyclones' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Meanwhile, Pinewood Prep entered their tilt with Northwood Academy on Friday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Chargers 14-2. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by ten runs or more this season.
Jayden Alexander looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only four walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, Pinewood Prep let Finley Taylor and Camden Abernathy run wild. Taylor went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Abernathy scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Abernathy has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Kabine, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Pinewood Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwood Academy only posted an OBP of .417.
Porter-Gaud's record now sits at 3-1. As for Pinewood Prep, their record is now 8-2.
Porter-Gaud was able to grind out a solid win over Pinewood Prep in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Porter-Gaud since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
