The Elkhorn Antlers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 20 points or more this season. They were the clear victor by a 83-58 margin over Boys Town. Given Elkhorn's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while Boys Town is ranked 97th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Nixon Farmer, who scored 21 points along with five assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Cole Petersen, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Boys Town's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Marqas Gray , who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Nyree Poteet who scored 21 points along with five steals. The game was Poteet's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darien Whitaker , who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.
Elkhorn's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. As for Boys Town, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Elkhorn will be playing in front of their home fans against Elkhorn North at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Elkhorn North knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Elkhorn likes a good challenge. As for Boys Town, they will head out on the road to face off against Lincoln Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lincoln Christian and Boys Town are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
