The Venice Indians will face off against the Alonso Ravens at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Venice comes in on ten and Alonso on three.
Venice is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Newsome a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won 15 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Jackson Lucas made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Kasen Poplin looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
Back at the plate, August Backman was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jonathan Mauro was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Sarasota typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Alonso proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Sailors by a score of 4-1. That's two games straight that the Ravens have won by exactly three runs.
Like Venice, Alonso also got a great game from a two-way player: Bryan Alonso. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Alonso was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Marcelo Diaz Villalon looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Alonso wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Raymond Llanes, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. Another was Joshua Abrahante, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Venice pushed their record up to 28-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Alonso, their victory bumped their record up to 19-11.
