After a string of five wins, the Olympic Heights Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 73-72 to Morningside Academy. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Friday (57), Olympic Heights still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Olympic Heights saw an underclassman step up: Harrison Cohen dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cohen has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jake Harbatkin, who scored 23 points.
Even though they lost, Olympic Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Damon Folds, who scored 37 points along with five assists for Morningside Academy. Elijah Clifford was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Olympic Heights' loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7. As for Morningside Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Olympic Heights will face off against Spanish River at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Spanish River is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. Morningside Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Melbourne Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Melbourne Central Catholic will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
