Sequoyah has gone a perfect 4-0 against Tyner Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Chiefs will host the Rams at 6:00 p.m. Sequoyah is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, Sequoyah came up short against Lenoir City and fell 8-4.
Sequoyah saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Levi Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was Johnson's first of the season. Logan Johnson was another, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tyner Academy). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Brainerd a 21-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Jaden Isbell was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryleigh Chubb, who went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He has become a key player for Tyner Academy: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-14 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zion Dujon, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.
Tyner Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Tyner Academy's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 4-15. As for Sequoyah, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-15.
Everything went Sequoyah's way against Tyner Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Sequoyah made off with a 15-2 win. Will the Chiefs repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
