Even though the Eden Raiders scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, the Gowanda Panthers still came out on top. Gowanda walked away with a 64-56 victory over Eden. The victory was all the more spectacular given Gowanda's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 702nd, while Eden is ranked 296th).
Eden lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mike Weyland, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Taesyn Slating, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Eden smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Gowanda's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5. As for Eden, their loss dropped their record down to 13-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gowanda will face off against Frewsburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Frewsburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday. As for Eden, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Kennedy at 6:30 p.m. on February 7th. One thing working in Eden's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
